Elche
Just a few kilometres from Alicante lies the ancient city of Elche with many historical and cultural buildings. Elche is famous throughout Spain as the major grower of palm trees as well as being the centre of Spain's shoemaking industry.

The focal point of Elches 'old town' is the the 17th century Basilica de Santa Maria with its blue tiled dome and elaborate interior.

Orihuela
Only 20 minutes from Algorfa is Orihuela, a historical inland town untouched by tourism where the streets are lined with orange trees.
